INJURED SUAREZ TO MISS WORLD CUP

Suarez a doubt for World Cup

The Liverpool and Uruguay striker is set to undergo surgery on his knee and is a major doubt for the World Cup
Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has been made a huge doubt for the World Cup after it was revealed that he is to undergo surgery on a knee injury.

The Reds star, who was voted PFA Player of the Year by his peers after scoring 31 goals in Brendan Rodgers' title-chasing side, felt some discomfort during a training session with his international team-mates on Tuesday.

Subsequent tests have shown an issue in his meniscus in his knee, and the 27-year-old will be operated on this week, with the South American side desperately hoping that he will recover in time for this summer's tournament.

Uruguay have been placed in Group D in Brazil, along with England, Italy and Costa Rica and the news will come as a boost to Roy Hodgson's men, who are scheduled to face Oscar Tabarez's side on June 14.

However, Tabarez can also call on Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan, with the two forwards likely to spearhead the side's attack if Suarez does indeed miss out.
