Messi: Robben won Spain the World Cup
Lionel Messi believes Argentina will need a bit of luck in order to win the World Cup this summer as he feels Spain were fortunate to be crowned world champions four years ago following Arjen Robben's failure to guide Netherlands to glory.
The Bayern Munich star missed a huge chance to gift Holland the lead when he found himself one-on-one with Iker Casillas in the second half of the final and Messi thinks Spain would not have emerged victorious had Robben converted his chance.
"You need the luck of the champions in order to win the World Cup, just like Spain had in South Africa," the Barcelona star told TyC Sports.
"Spain were the best team at the 2010 World Cup, but they were fortunate that Robben missed two huge chances in the final."
Messi then went on to reveal that his Barcelona team-mates Xavi and Andres Iniesta would like him to guide Argentina to the title this summer.
"Xavi and Iniesta are my friends and they told me that they want me to win the World Cup.
"Everybody in Argentina will go absolutely crazy if we win the World Cup.
"I really hope Alejandro Sabella will continue as national team coach after the tournament."
Argentina have been paired with Nigeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iran in Group F
