DIEGO COSTA IS THE KEY FOR ATLETICO MADRID
Diego Simeone is excited with the depth Diego's signing brings to Atletico Madrid, as La Liga's title contenders got back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory against Valladolid.
Raul Garcia and Diego Costa fired the hosts' into a commanding lead on Saturday, leaving Diego, who rejoined the Vicente Calderon outfit in January, to come off the bench later to assist Diego Godin's header.
And Simeone, who coached Diego to Europa League glory in 2011-12, is simply thankful to have a player of such talents at his disposal.
"With Diego we won the Europa League and had a superb second half to that season, but this team is very competitive," the Argentine told reporters.
"There’s Raul, [David] Villa, Koke, Arda [Turan], but the arrival of Diego gives us the possibility of balancing different ways of attacking. The team doesn’t just have one way of doing that.
"Our start was really good, with intensity, our lines close together, with power in attack. That’s how the plays built on each another.
"Going two ahead so early gave me peace of mind. The third goal game me a little more. From there, it offered us the chance to make some substitutions, so we could rest some and give minutes to others."
Los Rojiblancos clash with Serie A giants AC Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday but Simeone remained secretive about his line-up, before warning his men to be on their guard against Mario Balotelli.
"There’s still four days to go yet. We’ll make evaluations and obviously we’ll go there with those we think will do the best," Simeone continued.
"I think Balotelli is a lad who can change a game. He takes the game where Milan want it."
