Batista vs. The WWE World Heavyweight Champion

At WrestleMania XXX, six-time World Champion Batista returns to The Grandest Stage of Them All to vie for the most prestigious title in all of sports-entertainment, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Though the championship is currently held by The Face of WWE, Randy Orton, WWE’s Road to WrestleMania can bring with it many surprising twists and turns, and with the number of potential challengers to the throne swelling by the day, there is no yet telling whether The Viper will make it to Sunday, April 6 with his title intact.
The Animal, on the other hand, has already punched his ticket to a WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match in New Orleans. Batista qualified for the all-important WrestleMania opportunity by overcoming 29 other Superstars to win the Royal Rumble Match, his first match after a nearly four-year absence from the ring. With the unification of the WWE and World Heavyweight Titles in December, this year marks the first time in more than a decade that there has been a single World Champion, removing the traditional option for the Royal Rumble winner to select which title to contend for.
In his first appearance back in WWE a week before the Rumble event, Batista made his objective clear, interrupting Orton on Raw to declare he is after the WWE World Heavyweight Title.
“That’s been my goal all along, and it's no different now, and I think that's why this is a perfect time to return,” Batista said in an exclusive interview on WWE.com. “Whoever’s holding that title is my target.”
That makes his current target a former cohort in Orton. The Animal and WWE’s Apex Predator spent their formative years together as the two junior members of Evolution — one of the most powerful factions in wrestling history, guided by Triple H and WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair. Although they spent many months fighting side-by-side, Batista and Orton’s ring wars are also well documented, as is their obvious disdain for one another.
To make it to WrestleMania as the defending WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Orton must fight back a pack of contenders that are coming from every conceivable angle. The Face of WWE found out on the Jan. 27 edition of Raw that he will put his title on the line against five challengers inside the Elimination Chamber. Will Orton even make it to the 30th annual Showcase of the Immortals with the title around his waist?
Regardless of how tight Orton’s grip is on the title, The Animal has already made good on his promise to win the Royal Rumble Match. On April 6, will Batista complete his stated goal and stand alone as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion?
